The Yamaha Sigma G5S II, also designated Σ-G5S II, uses direct-drive rotary heads to combine chip-placement speed with a broad component range. Its “1-head solution” approach reduces the need to change heads when a board includes components of different sizes.
Choose the head configuration around the assembly
The 15-nozzle High-Speed Multi head handles components from miniature chips to 44 × 44 × 12.7 mm packages. Two HM heads achieve up to 90,000 CPH under optimum conditions.
The three-nozzle Flexible Multi head extends handling to 72 × 72 × 25.4 mm components and connectors up to 150 × 26 mm. Its specified placement accuracy is ±15 μm. These capabilities belong to the respective head configurations; maximum speed and maximum component size are not simultaneous ratings.
Shared feeder access and placement checks
SIGMA Overdrive allows heads to access components from front or rear feeders, giving the placement program more freedom to balance work between heads.
Component-holding detection continues to immediately before placement. The HM head uses side-view recognition, while the FM head uses nozzle-flow detection for applicable components. SL feeders support splice-less tape replenishment.
Single- and dual-lane configurations accommodate different board flows, with a long-board option extending single-lane handling to 1,200 mm.
